The manufacturer has most likely tied it to the BIOS of the original machine.īTW, we are talking about Windows XP, right? I think since you are going to different hardware, you are in trouble with the OEM version of Windows. Can Ghost do anything to help or must I buy the program you mentioned? Since I have moved twice in the last 8 - 10 years, I no longer have the install disks, so unable to do clean install. one is a DOS program (which won't execute when copied to thumb drive, missing files) and the other 2 were loaded onto Windows. On question 1, all I need are three programs. When you restore a Recovery Point (image) to the destination drive, the OS, installed programs (including Ghost) and files will be on the destination drive. You would normally install it on the original computer. Ghost 15 doesn't have to be installed on either machine as it can run from the CD. On question 2, since I've never used Ghost before, is it loaded on the source machine, destination or both (if I ever get to use it)? Whatever is on the original drive will be on the destination drive. Ghost would make a complete sector by sector copy of the original drive. Ghost should just overwrite what is on it and take care of formatting as the image is written to it. The destination drive doesn't need to be formatted or blank. I think I understand I can't do questions 3 or 4.
